Week 5

In week 5, we were taught the tools and gadgets of Windows 7 that are worth to use by personal home users and small businesses, the reason why and how Microsoft keep pace with the current and future needs and trends of technology in providing the appropriate OS interface and evolution and progressive development of Windows operating systems.

Firstly, our lecturer simply told us the history about Microsoft Operating Systems.  He also gave us the clear understanding of Microsoft windows. Because nowadays, most of us are using windows 7, so the topic also focused on this new operating system. We learned the aim and upgrades of windows 7. There are huge improvement from windows XP such as new start icon, aero snap, Shake and peek, desktop icons like “Computer” and “My Documents” are removed and accessed through the Start Menu  and larger icons and hidden icons in the taskbar and so on.
Later, we moved on the futures of windows 7. The efficient file management, how to find files and folders, types of libraries

Using search

Search option and features

At the end of this week’s class, we all have known more detail about the windows 7 and how to use it effectively.

Week4

For this week we were introduced  about communication system and its function. To catch the attention of the students There was a small exchange between the lecturer and students and a series of question answer.
By answering some questions one by one, I was gradually getting to know the concept of computer internet, the reason why we should have this communication method and network components.
Computer internet components are Communication Media, Interconnecting Devices, Computers, Networking Software and Applications. And I also got the basic networking concepts are Topology, Protocol and Architecture. At the end of first class in week 3, we were also taught us the types of signal which are analogue signal and digital signal.
Later, we have learnt the communication channel, network medium, physical media, physical medium, wireless media and wireless medium.
By the end of the second class in week 3, we have learnt that communication medium is essential for a computer communication to take place, and there are various types of digital communication systems/ applications around us that either connected with guided or unguided media. The certain type of media would be more popular in the future.
After this, we studied the types of network, they are:
Network in small geographical Area (Room, Building or a Campus) is called LAN (Local Area Network)
Network in a City is call MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)
Network spread geographically (Country or across Globe) is called WAN (Wide Area Network)
At the same time, we also understood the meaning of peer to peer networking,  it was indicated in the follow photo:

Serve based network was next type. A server-based network offers centralized control and is designed for secure operations.
Client network
In a client/server network arrangement, network services are located in a dedicated computer whose only function is to respond to the requests of clients. You can see as follow:
Everything has pros and cons, this type of network too. The advantages and disadvantages of
peer to peer networking, Server based network and Client network were clearly understood in this week’s session.
By the end of the week, we knew about network coverage and medium, there are also other ways to classify computer networks  and there are ways to improve a computer network either a LAN or WAN type.

 Thank you.

Week 3

Firstly, we had the opportunity to get the concept what the software is all about. As it is simply define as the intangible part of a computer, tells what a computer supposed to carry out, and how to do it. It drives the hardware and a collection of computer programs together with the related data.

Moreover, we learned the categories of software and the process of how a computer knows what it
should  do. Because it has been given a detailed list of instructions, called a computer program or software, that tells it exactly what to do.

There are four types of software which are application program, operating systems, device drivers and systems software.

I had also the opportunity to be introduced about the levels of programming language.

Then, we studied the differences and developments of third generation to fifth generation programming language. We had clear understanding of compiling, interpreting and translation among languages.

Moreover, the application software was also an important concept.
Application programs interact with systems software; systems software then directs computer hardware to perform the necessary tasks.
Our lecturer Mr. Azamuddin had given us very detail information about every type of application software. The functions, attributes and usage all were clearly got by all of us.

week 2

It was week 1, Earlier the first class of computer internet, we met our respected lecturer was Mr. Azamuddin and introduce the subject to us. Later on we did Ice-breaking session and got to know each other. In this week, we have learnt what is computer all about and the operation procedure. We also have learnt the decimal, binary, octal and Hexadecimal Number Systems, the computation methods as well.

Later, we learned the five generation of computer from 1970 till now. How computer has changed over years . The computer architecture and categories of computer are also very important knowledge for me. Here is one of the example is the Super computer.
Moreover, we also learnt the system unit components, which are

Ø   Processor

Ø  Memory module
Ø  Expansion cards
Ø  Sound card
Ø  Modem card
Ø  Video card
Ø  Network interface card
Ø   Ports and Connectors

At the same time, we have been taught about the CPU components. Control Unit (CU) acts like the supervisor seeing that things are done in proper fashion. The control unit determines the sequence in which computer programs and instructions are executed. Things like processing of programs stored in the main memory, interpretation of the instructions and issuing of signals for other units of the computer to execute them. It also acts as a switch board operator when several users access the computer simultaneously. Thereby it coordinates the activities of computer’s peripheral equipment as they perform the input and output. Therefore it is the manager of all operations.

Registers, Main Memory, Volatility, Random Access Memory and Read Only Memory, are all important elements of a computer.

We also have learnt the concept of  input and output device in the end of the week.
